Preschool Ballet/Creative Movement: Creative Dance explores both the creative and physical dimensions of each child as they gain awareness of music, rhythm, and movement. Activities are designed to develop strength, coordination, creative thinking, and expression. Through classroom activities, children refine motor skills and develop the creative process through the use of props and imagery.
Lyrical: Dance style that blends ballet and jazz dance. Lyrical dancers use movement to express strong emotions generally portraying the lyrics of a song. Lyrical dance is characterized by fluidity and grace.
Tap: Rhythmic dance done with special shoes that make sounds. Dancers use their arms and upper bodies to blend movements of ballet or jazz into their tap routines.
Ballet: Foundation for all dance consisting of a variety of technique, strength and control.
Pre-ballet: Provides a bridge between Creative Dance and the academyís first level of ballet. Children are introduced to the structure and discipline of a ballet class, as well as music awareness and basic ballet terminology. Pre-ballet emphasizes creative expression through movement to music.
Jazz: Often done to pop music, jazz is a technical form of an ever-changing popular dance style. Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, turns, leaps and dance technique. Jazz is often seen in musicals and has as many different styles as teachers. Jazz dancing is a forn of dance that showcases a dancerís individual style and originality
Hip Hop: A "street" style of dance often seen in music videos. It is a less technical and high-energy style of dance that is done wearing street clothes and sneakers.
Modern: It is an "anything goes" form of dance and is diverse and unlimited in style and creativity. Any form of dance that is out of the box and cannot be defined is "Modern".
Turns and Technique: This is strictly a technical class that works on jazz based turns and leaps, etc. It is required that the dancer has had approximately 2 years of jazz experience.
Pointe: An advanced form of ballet technique done on special pointe shoes that allow the dancer to go up on their toes. This class is by teacher recommendation only.
